Federal Transit Administration Gives Austin Light Rail a “Medium-High” Rating – Strongest Rating Awarded in 2026 Fiscal Year

The Federal Transit Administration has given Austin Light Rail a “Medium-High” rating in its Annual Report on Funding Recommendations, the strongest rating awarded in the 2026 fiscal year.

The rating is an important milestone that allows Austin Light Rail to continue advancing toward federal Capital Investment Grants funding.

“The rating is a strong reflection of all the hard work we have done in Austin—together with our federal and local partners,” said Austin Transit Partnership CEO Greg Canally. “We continue to move Austin Light Rail forward, bringing new transit infrastructure to Austin and new jobs for Texas.”

The “Medium-High” rating strengthens Austin Light Rail’s position for future federal investment and reflects the City of Austin’s commitment to a modern, reliable transit system that supports Austin’s long-term growth, including updating land use policies along the light rail corridor. Austin Light Rail will deliver a high-capacity, accessible transit system that will improve the daily lives of Austin workers, families, students, and visitors alike—boosting Austin’s economy, supporting growth, and keeping the city moving as it continues to expand.
